  13.  Metrosoft Announces MetroSuction - a Freeware Utility

  15. San Diego, July 1, 1993 - MetroSuction is a commercial-quality utility for
  16. examining and removing support for different hardware architectures in Multi-
  17. Architecture Binary files (so-called "fat binaries"). It easily handles
  18. folders of applications and multiple binary files per application. It's a
  19. freeware utility from Metrosoft, the makers of MetroTools.
  20.  
  21. Multi-architecture Binaries (MABs) or "fat binaries" allow the same NEXTSTEP
  22. program to run on different types of machines (currently NeXT computers and
  23. supported Intel-based computers). MetroSuction allows you to easily see which
  24. architectures are supported by a given application and to remove support for a
  25. given architecture, freeing up disk space.

  27. "We felt there was a need for a high-quality NEXTSTEP utility for manipulating
  28. fat binaries.", said Gordon Van Huizen, President, Metrosoft.  "Many people
  29. won't be able to take advantage of removing support for an architecture during
  30. program installation due to a bug in the NEXTSTEP Installer utility that
  31. occurs when creating multi-disk installation packages. And even when that
  32. problem is resolved, it'll be nice to have an easy-to-use utility for dealing
  33. with fat binaries. We felt it should be free for the NEXTSTEP community."

  36. cs.orst.edu. Feel free to give away copies!
